Maybe you are missing a level between Novice and Expert called Journeyman - a tradesman who has served an apprenticeship and is employed by a master tradesman

"I have realized its not arrogance its almost empathy"

Right on!!!!! Here I was thinking I was an asshole to the one person on my team who DOESN'T WANT TO LEARN and I realized it is actually empathy. I love helping people, teaching someone a new skill is an amazing feeling, but someone who just wants to get their job done and doesn't care how it's done is not interested in the knowledge you'd like to share.

"Next time your talking to someone who you perceive is above your level and you get the urge to smack them for being an asshole, take that as a compliment that they recognize that you have skills and ability and that they think you could achieve more."

I should print that out and place it on a few people's keyboards anonymously.
